Mrs Lowry & Son (PG)

A portrait of the artist L.S. Lowry and the relationship with his mother, who tries to dissuade him from pursuing his passion.

"Within three or four short exchanges Vanessa Redgrave establishes Mrs Lowry as one of the great maternal monsters of cinema, up there with Faye Dunaway in Mommie Dearest or Piper Laurie in Carrie" - Kevin Maher - Times (UK)

"Timothy Spall's performance is a sterling study of understatement and pent-up frustration opposite a bed-bound Vanessa Redgrave, who plays his domineering, ego-crushing horro of a mother" - Jim Schembri - 3AW
